The Designer Monologues » Gareth-Michael Skarka » Transmedia (Part Two)

Gareth-Michael Skarka

In yesterday’s post I gave the “Why” — my reasons for saying that tabletop game industry folks should be moving into the wider transmedia field. Today, I’m going to talk about “What” and “How”.

CWF+RTB=$$$

That formula is the creation of Mike Masnick from Techdirt, taken from a 15-minute presentation he did at the 2009 MidemNet conference in Cannes. It means: Connection With Fans plus Reason To Buy equals Business Model. It’s an argument for how creatives (specifically musicians, in his example) can generate a living in an age of pirating downloads, clueless corporations and shrinking economies....

Another mobile walking tour from Untravel Media

'Untravel started with research CEO Michael Epstein conducted as a graduate student at MIT looking at storytelling techniques, audiences, and technologies. His thesis focused on industry and experimental projects bringing mobile technologists and storytellers together. He was awarded a grant from the European Union, Motorola and Dell to create a walking tour in Venice Italy from 2004-5. From there the concept of terratives developed into a Business and in 2006 he incorporated Untravel Media, Inc. a unique production and software company focusing on mobile storytelling. Working with a range of clients and grants, the company has grown to a diverse, Boston-based studio of developers, designers, writers, and producers.'

Flash and Creative Freedom | Adobe launches we love Apple Campaign

Media_httpwwwimagesad_vgmfl

At Adobe, we believe that the open flow of creativity, ideas, and information should be limited only by the imagination. Innovation thrives when people are free to choose the technologies that enable them to openly express themselves and access information where and when they want. Everyone loses when technological barriers impede the exchange of ideas.

Openness is at Adobe's core. Our first technology was an open standard that liberated publishing from proprietary printing systems, and soon afterward our PDF technology eliminated barriers to sharing documents across platforms.
Adobe® Flash® technology enables the delivery of content to hundreds of millions of people, regardless of platform or browser. In 2009, in partnership with Google, Research In Motion, and dozens of other companies, we formed the Open Screen Project, a coalition committed to making web experiences seamlessly available on any mobile device.

We believe open markets that allow developers, publishers, and consumers to make their own choices about how they create, distribute, and access content are essential to progress. That's why we actively support technologies like HTML4, HTML5, CSS, and H.264, in addition to our own technologies.
As the web and mobile devices facilitate the free exchange of ideas like never before, we stand at the leading edge of an amazing revolution. We remain certain that openness is the only way forward.
