'Information is Beautiful' gathers examples of beautiful data visualizations - there's so much here I would add their website to the hierarchy of digital distractions above!

I HIGHLY doubt this is for real - but funny video -
great documentation video!
Brilliant! Don't know much about the agency here but the brief was to create an in-store experience of game control to demo the NIKE CTR360 football, so Our Work hacked the Apple mouse & created a simple intuitive interface I'd love to play with
This is great - love the multiple screens in action - now if only you could mash this up with Joshua Davis' Reflect app...
If you don't know the I/O Brush, this is a gorgeous integration of digital and tactile elements. The test group - 5-6 year old kids - have a blast & try things most adults would never think of.
I just stumbled on Alex Beim's work - what a great find! this interactive graffiti project allows you to 'pick up' colours from the palette with the spray can and then paint the screen images.
Reminds me of the lovely MIT I/O Brush (2005), which allows you to paint with still & motion capture videos. If you're interested in the tech, there's a great discussion in the comments below on Beim's use of infrared in the can which is picked up by a camera behind the multi-touch screen. Very cool work.
Another lovely call for applications for the Rethink Scholarship Langara College
Langara College (Vancouver BC) has posted a genius call for entries for their Rethink Scholarships - check out their interactive/augmented book
