while there are some odd things on this facebook page (the photos in the album I'm looking at are definitely NOT Henio) and sending gifts (goldfish) seems a bit strange, I can imagine that the use of facebook as a memorial for a victim of the holocaust could be very compelling. I'll have a better sense once I'm confirmed.
Robert Pratten, of Zen Films, talks on Culture Hacker about his experience developing the transmedia components for a new film, Vauxhall Crossed, "a family, action-adventure feature film about an MI6 agent called Daisy Scarlett (think female James Bond)."
For growing a fan base, he uses the analogy of having to 'drill down' for oil/fans where that first phase is tough going but then establishes the base. The image above is for their faux Chinese take-away arg site.
"The oil analogy is a good one because the early stages are quite tough. It takes a concerted effort to get that initial traction. It’s a bit like developing your feature film: it feels like an uphill struggle in the beginning – you’re trying to get either finance or cast to fall into line when they’re both dependent on each other. But then when finally someone gives you a break everything starts to fall into place and all the barriers start to melt away.
So it is with audience building, it takes time and hard work to get those early followers but once you do the project starts to get traction and everything gets easier little by little."
thanks Carlos, nice find!
Endlessly inventive Big Spaceship recently launched an archival site for the pre-loader - & congrats to one of my favourite digital creative companies for being on Creativity's Agency of the Year Honor Roll 2009 - now how to send them the NFB Waterlife pre-loader...
Tali Krakowsky's post Spaceland describes LM3LABS' Airstrike as "holographic gestural interactive screen.' This eerie/gorgeous video demos one of a number of 'touchless interactivity' interfaces you can find on their site:
Spike Jonze has a new film? I'm so there! The film is slated for a global launch in March but the website http://www.imheremovie.com/ also has a link to register for a ticket for the online premiere. The film is a 'collaboration' with Absolut vodka, whether that means product placement or just the branding of the site isn't evident yet, but if it's Jonze, I'm watching.
'Spike Jonze’s new half-hour short film titled I’m Here is a robot love story celebrating a life enriched by creativity. The movie is set in contemporary L.A., where life moves at a seemingly regular pace with the exception of a certain amount of robot residents who live among the population. A male robot librarian lives a solitary and methodical life - devoid of creativity, joy and passion - until he meets an adventurous and free spirited female robot.
The film premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.'
In the WOW category! thanks Alex M!
"Turning your monitor into a touchscreen could some day be as simple as peel … and stick.
Displax, a Portugal-based company, promises to turn any surface — flat or curved — into a touch-sensitive display. The company has created a thinner-than-paper polymer film that can be stuck on glass, plastic or wood to turn it into an interactive input device.
“It is extremely powerful, precise and versatile,” says Miguel Fonseca, chief business officer at Displax. “You can use our film with on top of anything including E Ink, OLED and LCD displays.”
Human-computer interaction that goes beyond keyboards and mouse has become a hot new area of emerging technology. Since Apple popularized the swipe and pinch gestures with the iPhone, touch has become a new frontier in the way we interact with our devices.
In the past, students have shown a touchscreen where pop-up buttons and keypads can dynamically appear and disappear. That allows the user to experience the physical feel of buttons on a touchscreen. In 2008, Microsoft offered Surface, a multitouch product that allows users to manipulate information using gesture recognition.
Displax’s films range from 3 inches to 120 inches diagonally...."

And though the translation is a bit off, the trailer seems to suggest it was shot in some notable way - the english is shot on a 'photo camera' (???) It's likely not the first though as Robert Archer Lynn's Deadbox (2007) also sold itself as one 105 minute take.
Keiichi Matsuda's short film was produced for his final year Masters at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London. His experimentation with future possibles is intriguing - see what catches your eye
